Job summary

Placements24 is assisting a premier golfing destination in George, Western Cape to recruit an Elite Golf Course Superintendent. The role demands hands-on leadership, advanced turf agronomy, and budget-conscious management of a world-class facility.

You will lead a groundskeeping crew, drive long-term agronomic plans, optimize playability and aesthetics, and ensure compliance with environmental and safety standards, while coordinating with golf professionals to meet member and visitor

Qualifications

• A degree/diploma in horticulture, agronomy, or turfgrass management.
• Minimum 5 years in golf course management, with 2+ years as Superintendent.
• Proven staff and budget management experience.
• In-depth knowledge of turfgrass science and soil science.
• Irrigation system management expertise.
• Strong leadership and communication skills.
• Experience with advanced maintenance equipment.
• Certification by turfgrass association desirable.
• Knowledge of George region climate agronomy.
• Willingness to work flexible hours.

Responsibilities

• Oversee all aspects of golf course maintenance, including turfgrass health, irrigation, fertilization, pest and disease control, and course conditioning.
• Develop and implement annual and long-term agronomic plans for optimal playability.
• Manage and lead a team of groundskeepers, providing training and performance management.
• Oversee equipment operation and maintenance, ensuring safety and efficiency.
• Develop and manage the annual operating budget for the maintenance department.
• Monitor weather patterns and adjust practices for seasonal challenges and tournaments.
• Ensure environmental regulations compliance and sustainable turf practices.
• Collaborate with golf professionals and management to meet member and visitor expectations.
• Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities and budget expenditures.
