Placements24 is seeking an experienced Electrical Infrastructure Development Engineer for our client in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga. The hybrid role focuses on planning, design, and implementation of electrical infrastructure projects to support growing energy demands in the region.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• 7+ years in electrical power systems engineering.
• Strong HV/MV knowledge and substation design.
• Experience with protection schemes and relay settings.
• Proficient in PSS/E, ETAP, AutoCAD.
• Pr. Eng registration with ECSA highly desirable.
• Energy utility sector experience preferred.

About the Role

Our client, a dynamic utility company, is seeking an experienced Electrical Infrastructure Development Engineer to join their team in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga . This hybrid role focuses on the planning, design, and implementation of electrical infrastructure projects to support the growing energy demands of the region. You will be involved in substation design, power line routing, protection studies, and ensuring the reliability and capacity of the electrical grid. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of high voltage systems, power distribution networks, and project management principles. This is a key role contributing to the development and modernization of the electrical infrastructure in Mpumalanga , a region experiencing significant economic growth. You will work within a collaborative team environment, interacting with various stakeholders to ensure the successful delivery of critical projects. Key Responsibilities

• Plan and design electrical infrastructure projects, including substations, transmission lines, and distribution networks.
• Conduct feasibility studies, load forecasting, and network capacity analysis.
• Develop detailed engineering specifications, drawings, and Bill of Quantities (BOQs) for electrical infrastructure components.
• Perform protection studies and ensure the correct application of protection schemes and equipment.
• Oversee the tendering process for equipment and construction services.
• Manage project execution, including site supervision, quality control, and contractor coordination.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant engineering standards, safety regulations, and environmental requirements.
• Collaborate with regulatory bodies, municipal authorities, and other stakeholders to obtain necessary permits and approvals.
• Analyze system performance and propose upgrades or enhancements to improve reliability and efficiency.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in electrical power systems engineering, with a focus on infrastructure development and design.
• Strong knowledge of high voltage (HV) and medium voltage (MV) systems, substation design, and transmission/distribution networks.
• Proficiency in electrical design and simulation software (e.g., PSS/E, ETAP, AutoCAD).
• Experience with power system protection principles and relay settings.
• Understanding of project management methodologies and contract administration.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage stakeholder relationships.
• Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng.) registration with ECSA is highly desirable.
• Experience in the energy utility sector is preferred.
