Job summary

Placements24 is looking for an Electrical Design Engineer to join our client in Polokwane, Limpopo. You will design electrical systems for solar and renewable energy plants, develop diagrams, perform power system studies, and ensure regulatory compliance.

The role requires at least 4 years of experience in electrical design, proficiency with AutoCAD Electrical, PVSyst, ETAP, and a strong understanding of SA electrical standards. On-site presence in Polokwane is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience in electrical design, with renewable energy project exposure.
• Proficiency in electrical design and simulation software (AutoCAD Electrical, PVSyst, ETAP).
• Good understanding of grid interconnection requirements and power system studies.
• Knowledge of South African electrical regulations and standards.

Responsibilities

• Design electrical systems for utility-scale solar PV projects, including DC and AC systems, grid connection, and protection.
• Develop single-line diagrams, schematics, wiring layouts, and equipment specifications.
• Perform electrical studies such as load flow, short circuit, and grounding analysis using industry-standard software.
• Select and specify electrical equipment, including inverters, transformers, switchgear, and cabling.
• Collaborate with project managers, civil engineers, and construction teams to ensure successful project delivery.
• Ensure designs comply with relevant electrical codes, standards (e.g., NRS, IEC), and client requirements.
• Support site construction and commissioning activities, resolving electrical issues as they arise.
• Conduct technical reviews of designs prepared by external consultants.
