Placements24 is seeking an experienced Electrical Design Engineer for our client in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga. You will design electrical systems for industrial plants, produce detailed schematics, and ensure compliance with safety and IEC/SANS standards through a collaborative, hybrid-work environment.

The role requires a BEng/BTech in Electrical Engineering and at least 4 years of industrial design experience, with CAD proficiency (AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN).

About the Role

Our client, a leader in industrial manufacturing solutions, is looking for a skilled Electrical Design Engineer to join their team in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga. This role focuses on the design and development of electrical systems for industrial plants and processes. You will be responsible for creating detailed electrical designs, ensuring they meet stringent safety, operational, and efficiency standards. This hybrid position offers a blend of office-based design work and occasional site visits, providing a dynamic and engaging work environment. You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of engineers to deliver robust and innovative electrical solutions for their diverse client base.

Key Responsibilities

• Design electrical systems for industrial facilities, including power distribution, control panels, lighting, and earthing systems.
• Develop detailed electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, and layout drawings using CAD software.
• Specify electrical components, switchgear, motors, and instrumentation according to project requirements.
• Perform electrical calculations for load analysis, fault current, and protection coordination.
• Ensure designs comply with all relevant industry standards, codes, and regulations (e.g., SANS, IEC).
• Collaborate with mechanical engineers, project managers, and site teams to ensure seamless project integration.
• Assist in the commissioning and testing of electrical installations.
• Prepare technical specifications, Bill of Materials (BOM), and project documentation.
• Conduct site surveys and inspections as required.
• Provide technical support to the manufacturing and maintenance teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience in electrical design, preferably within an industrial or manufacturing environment.
• Proficiency in electrical CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN).
• Solid understanding of industrial power systems, motor control, automation, and instrumentation.
• Knowledge of relevant electrical codes and safety standards.
• Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a hybrid setup.
• Experience with PLC programming or SCADA systems is an advantage.
• Professional registration with ECSA is beneficial.
