Job summary

Reddam House Umhlanga in KwaZulu-Natal is seeking a dependable School Bus Driver to provide safe and reliable transport for students and to assist with school-related errands.

The role requires Matric, Code 10 license, PDP, and strong English. You will conduct pre-trip checks, transport students to and from school, and maintain a professional, safety‑minded image at all times.

Qualifications

• Matric with valid PDP and Code 10 license.
• Code 10 license and PDP required.
• Able to read, write and speak English.

Responsibilities

• Perform daily bus checks and fill in the bus log before any trip is undertaken.
• Transport students from home to school and from school to home.
• Drop students only at authorized stops.
• Perform school related errands.
• Drive the bus for school field trips, sports events.
• Work overtime if required.
• Uphold a positive image of Reddam House by applying good and safe driving habits.
• Wear the school issued uniform which identifies the driver as a school employee.
• Ensure that the bus is in good operating condition by testing the brakes, tires, lights and other components, complete the pre-trip inspection on a daily basis, and submit it to the Estate Manager/Head.
• Notify the Estate Manager/Head in case of mechanical failure or lateness.
• Ensure all seatbelts are in working condition before leaving the campus.
• Ensure that all passengers have their seatbelts fastened before moving the bus, and maintain rules of conduct, and respond to emergencies.
• Keep assigned bus in a clean condition and ensure it gets washed twice a week.
• Notify the Estate Manager/Head if there are any route deviations.
• Transport only authorized students.
• Report minor and major accidents/ damage to bus and complete required reports.
• Complete diesel and oil and travel log when filling the bus with petrol.
• Ensure that his/her PDP and Code 10 driver’s license is valid at all times.
• Other duties as may be assigned

ROLE SUMMARY:

The driver is responsible for providing a safe and reliable bus service and for transporting students to and from school. He or she will also perform school related errands as requested, and transport students to field trip locations as assigned. He or she will establish an effective rapport with students and will be responsible to ensure all passengers on the bus follow Reddam House mandated procedures.

He or she will also perform other school related errands as requested, IE: maintenance, gardening, assistance with school related requirements when needed.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

• Valid Public Driving Permit (PDP)
• Able to proficiently read, write and speak English

Preferred Skills and Experience:

• Prior experience driving a bus, preferably a school bus three years and more.
• An ability to communicate well with students, staff and parents.
