Job summary

Inspired Education Group, via Reddam House Umhlanga, is seeking a dependable bus driver to transport students to and from school and on field trips. The role requires maintaining a safe, clean bus, performing pre-trip inspections and adhering to school procedures.

You will work to establish rapport with students and staff, keep accurate logs, and ensure seatbelts are fastened before moving. PDP validation and English proficiency are essential, with 3+ years’ school bus experience preferred.

• Able to read, write and speak English fluently.
• Prior experience driving a school bus for 3+ years preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform daily bus checks and fill the bus log before trips.
• Transport students to and from school and to field trips.
• Drop students at authorized stops and maintain safety rules.
• Complete diesel/oil/travel logs and report incidents as required.
• Ensure all passengers wear seatbelts and maintain a neat bus.
• Notify Estate Manager of delays or route deviations.
• Maintain a positive image of the school and wear the issued uniform.

ROLE SUMMARY:

The driver is responsible for providing a safe and reliable bus service and for transporting students to and from school. He or she will also perform school related errands as requested, and transport students to field trip locations as assigned. He or she will establish an effective rapport with students and will be responsible to ensure all passengers on the bus follow Reddam House mandated procedures.

He or she will also perform other school related errands as requested, IE: maintenance, gardening, assistance with school related requirements when needed.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Perform daily bus checks and fill in the bus log before any trip is undertaken
• Transport students from home to school and from school to home
• Drop students only at authorized stops
• Perform school related errands
• Drive the bus for school fieldtrips, sports events.
• Uphold a positive image of Reddam House by applying good and safe driving habits.
• Wear the school issued uniform which identifies the driver as a school employee
• Ensure that the bus is in good operating condition by testing the brakes, tires, lights and other components, complete the pre-trip inspection on a daily basis, and submit it to the Estate Manager/Head
• Notify the Estate Manager/Head in case of mechanical failure or lateness
• Ensure all seatbelts are in working condition before leaving the campus
• Ensure that all passengers have their seatbelts fastened before moving the bus, and maintain rules of conduct, and respond to emergencies.
• Keep assigned bus in a clean condition and ensure it gets washed twice a week
• Notify the Estate Manager/Head if there are any route deviations
• Transport only authorized students
• Report minor and major accidents/ damage to bus and complete required reports
• Complete diesel and oil and travel log when filling the bus with petrol
• Ensure that his/her PDP and Code 10 driver’s license is valid at all times.
• Other duties as may be assigned

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

Qualifications:

• Valid Public Driving Permit (PDP)
• Able to proficiently read, write and speak English

Preferred Skills and Experience:

• Prior experience driving a bus, preferably a school bus three years and more.
• An ability to communicate well with students, staff and parents.
