Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Petroleum Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
• Minimum 6 years of drilling engineering experience with strong well design focus.
• Experience in designing/executing complex wells (HPHT, deepwater, extended reach).

Responsibilities

• Design and plan drilling programs for complex wells including exploration, appraisal and development wells.
• Perform hydraulic, cementing, and directional drilling calculations and design.
• Select drilling equipment, tools and services based on well requirements.
• Conduct risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies for drilling operations.
• Prepare daily drilling and end-of-well reports documenting performance and lessons learned.
• Liaise with rig crews, service companies, and other stakeholders for safe execution.
• Monitor drilling performance and troubleshoot operational issues.
• Ensure compliance with Health, Safety and Environmental regulations.
• Manage drilling-related costs and support budget targets.

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly competent Drilling Engineer with experience in complex well design and execution to join their team in Paarl, Western Cape . This role will involve the planning, design, and supervision of drilling operations for challenging wells, ensuring safety, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness. You will be responsible for developing detailed drilling programs, selecting appropriate equipment and services, and managing drilling risks. The ideal candidate possesses a strong understanding of drilling fluid systems, cementing, directional drilling, and well control. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to critical projects within the Oil & Gas sector, working in a stimulating environment. We are looking for a proactive and technically skilled engineer who can ensure the successful execution of complex drilling campaigns for our client in the Paarl, Western Cape area.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and plan drilling programs for complex wells, including exploration, appraisal, and development wells.
• Perform hydraulic, cementing, and directional drilling calculations and design.

Requirements

• Minimum of 6 years of experience in drilling engineering, with a significant focus on well design.
• Proven experience in designing and executing complex wells (e.g., high pressure, high temperature, deepwater, extended reach).
• Strong understanding of directional drilling tools and techniques, and Casing/Tubing design.
• Proficiency in drilling simulation software and well planning tools.
• Solid knowledge of well control principles and procedures.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure and in a team environment.
• Familiarity with industry standards and best practices in the Oil & Gas sector.
