Job summary

Afrimat Mining Services in Bellville, Western Cape, South Africa is seeking a Drilling Assistant. The role supports the Drill Rig Operator, ensures drill holes are prepared for production, and assists with stemming and drill-bit maintenance.

The ideal candidate has 1–3 years in open pit mining, strong communication, and the ability to work under pressure. Owning transport and accommodation is required; blast certificates provide an advantage.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 certificate is a minimum requirement.
• 1–3 years of open pit mining experience preferred.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
• Own transport and accommodation required.
• Blast assistant certificate is an advantage.

Responsibilities

• Assist Drill Rig Operator with drilling activities.
• Ensure drill holes are cleaned for production.
• Plug drilled holes properly and assist with stemming.
• Sharpen drill bits and monitor rig for faults.
• Support blasting activities and other duties as assigned.

# Drilling AssistantHome / Drilling Assistant**Location:**Bellville,Western Cape,South AfricaAfrimat Mining Services, based at D&B Western Cape, has a vacancy for a:## Drilling Assistant##### Minimum Qualifications / Experience / Key Competencies* Grade 12 certificate* Minimum of 1 to 3 years’ experience in an open pit-mining environment* Strong communication skills both verbal and written* Able to work well under pressure* Own Transport & accommodation* Blast assistant certificate will be an advantage##### Duties and Responsibilities (not limited to):* Assist Drill Rig Operator with drilling activities* Ensure sufficient drill holes are cleaned for the day’s production* Drilled holes properly plugged* Assist with sharpening of drill bits* Ensure that no less than 2 buckets of stemming are placed next to each drilled hole* Continually monitor drill rig, report any mechanical faults to Operator* Perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor / Manager* Help with blasting activities##### Please send the following documents to apply:Please upload the following documents in one file with the application form to the right.
