Qualifications

• Must have earned a master's degree in bilingual education, educational leadership, linguistics or related field from a regionally accredited institution
• Must have at least ten years of full-time relevant, professional bilingual education experience including instructional leadership
• Has excellent integrity and strong character and initiative
• Strong knowledge of ML instruction and language development
• Strong knowledge of bilingual education regulations and compliance requirements

Position summary

The Director of Multilingual Education & Equity will administer a transitional bilingual education program for our Multilingual Learner (ML) students, providing guidance and support to Transitional Bilingual Education (TBE), Transitional Program of Instruction (TPI), and general education staff to ensure high-quality programming and a rich learning environment for culturally and linguistically diverse students and their families.

Role Qualifications

• Must hold a current Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with:
• General administrative OR Principal OR Superintendent endorsement AND
• Bilingual education OR English as a new language endorsement
• Must complete a teacher evaluator pre-qualification program as provided or approved by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE).
• Must have earned a master's degree in bilingual education, educational leadership, linguistics or a related field, awarded by a regionally accredited institution of higher education
• Must have at least ten years' of full-time relevant, professional experience in bilingual education, including instructional leadership experience
• Has excellent integrity and demonstrates good moral character and initiative
• Strong knowledge of ML instruction, including integration of effective research-based strategies for language acquisition and development
• Strong knowledge of bilingual education regulations and compliance requirements

Position responsibilities

• Advocate for multilingual learners.
• Identify opportunities across the district to improve the quality of multilingual learner programs.
• Set and drive a bold, coherent vision for multilingual learner achievement.
• Strengthen and redesign ML pathways to support course access, scheduling, credit recovery, and on-track graduation supports.
• Increase the quality of continuum of services for ML students to drive more effective instruction and improve student achievement across all grade bands.
• Partner with Teaching & Learning to align ML-specific instructional supports with district-wide curriculum, assessment, and professional learning systems.
• Develop strategies and procedures to ensure the district meets all state and federally mandated reporting and accountability requirements for EL programs.
• Build educator capacity to provide high quality, culturally sustaining and linguistically affirming instruction for multilingual learners.
• Assists in recruiting, screening, and hiring bilingual education staff.
• Conduct department meetings and submit minutes to Assistant Superintendent of Student Services.
• Supervise and coordinate with school personnel for specialized testing, staffing, and placement of students eligible for ML programming.
• Coordinate and disseminate information related to compliance and regulatory requirements.
• Conduct performance evaluations of ML education teachers to improve instruction.
• Works collegially with staff and administration.
• Ensure the implementation of specially designed instructional and best practices that meet the needs of multilingual learners.
• Facilitate the Multilingual Learner pre-referral process.
• Work collaboratively with Assistant Principals of Instruction and Student Services Coordinators in matters related to bilingual education scheduling.
• Develop and facilitate professional learning for multilingual education teachers.
• Provide leadership and coordination of curricular development, implementation, and enhancement in the area of multilingual education.
• Facilitate professional development for the department.
• Provide informed feedback concerning curriculum implementation.
• Maintain and update data points in PowerSchool and Ellevation
• Liaison with the Special Education cooperative (ECHO) and represent the District at ECHO meetings.
• Submit documentation as required to support the department's goals or duties as assigned.
• Work collaboratively with all members of the school community.
• Perform other duties as required or assigned by the Assistant Superintendent of Student Services.

Terms of Employment

• 12-month work year
• Salary range is $98,233-$149,816, based on verified experience and education
• Board-paid employee-only medical, dental, vision and $50,000 basic life insurance
