Responsibilities

• Overhaul equipment, vehicles and subsystems in the fleet and perform fault finding on mechanical, electrical and hydraulic systems.
• Delegate and supervise assistants and assist with tasks during day-to-day work, services and breakdowns.
• Have working knowledge of diesel driven pumps, compressors and generators for test runs and maintenance.
• Lubricate points on vehicles and change or top-up engine oil and hydraulic/transmission fluids.
• Change filters, replace batteries, assist with starting stranded vehicles when needed.

Job description

This position is ideally suitable for a self-motivated person who can work independently without supervision and who finds short – term response time environment challenging.

Requirements

• The successful incumbent should have experience post apprenticeship experience gained in a manufacturing environment.

• In addition to the above, proven ability to perform optically under pressure and the ability to work well in a team is a requirement

Responsibilities

• Overhaul equipment, vehicle, engine, hydraulic, water pumps, drive shafts, axles, differentials, suspension parts, brake system, fuel system, turbos, cylinders and valves or any other equipment that form part of the vehicle fleet.
• Do fault finding and root cause analysis for break downs and failures on mechanical, electrical and hydraulic systems.
• Delegate and supervise assistants and assist with task during day to day work, services and break downs.
• Have a working knowledge of diesel driven pumps, compressors and generators so as to be able to assist with test runs and maintenance of these units.
• Must have knowledge of the different types of lubricants and fluids us for heavy industrial vehicles that include greases, oils, hydraulic oils, brake fluids, engine coolants, etc. Lubricate all points on vehicles
• Change or top-up engine oil, hydraulic oil, transmission oils, water cooling systems
• Grease all points on vehicles
• Change the following filters: engine oil, air, hydraulics and transmission.
• Fix punctures, change wheels, change tyres on rims
• Change and charge batteries, assist with starting of stranded vehicles with flat batteries.
• Remove and replace the following: starters, alternators, water pumps, belt tensioners, radiators, hydraulic cylinders.
• Conduct daily maintenance
