Job summary

Omnia Group is seeking a Diesel Mechanic in the Northern Cape region, Kolomela, South Africa. The role requires diagnosing and repairing diesel vehicles, performing preventive maintenance, and ensuring safe, compliant operations within the mining sector.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 mathematics required for procedural calculations.
• Code 10 driver’s licence required for on-site operation.
• Diesel Mechanic Trade Test Certificate (Red Seal) mandatory.
• At least 3 years’ diesel mechanic experience on trucks/LDVs.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair diesel vehicles; replace engines, steering, transmissions, brakes as needed.
• Run diagnostic tests and analyze results to fix faults efficiently.
• Maintain detailed service records and inventory control.
• Adhere to SHERQ, PPE, housekeeping and safety standards.

Role Impact

The primary duties of a Diesel Mechanic include performing diagnostic tests on diesel vehicles to find faults, analyzing diagnostic test results and repairing or replacing engine, steering, transmission, braking or lighting system components.

Key Responsibilities

Productivity output

• Maintaining detailed records of serviced vehicles
• Ensure correct measurement of products are used to avoid production waste

Inventory handling

• Adhere to an inspection procedure checklist
• Maintaining a parts inventory

Mechanical ability

• Running diagnostic tests on vehicles.
• Analyzing diagnostic test results.
• Replacing vehicle engines, steering mechanisms, transmissions and braking systems.
• Checking vehicle lighting systems
• Performing preventative maintenance on service trucks

Adherence to sound SHERQ principles

• Wear the correct PPE
• Adhere to good housekeeping principles
• Ensure all SHERQ requirements are met

Minimum Requirements

Qualifications

• Grade 12 (Mathematics)
• Code 10 Drivers Licence
• Diesel Mechanic Trade Test Certificate (Red Seal)

Experience

• 3 year's demonstrated experience as a Diesel Mechanic (Truck and LDV).
• 3 years demonstrated knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenanc
• Proven working experience in an Explosives environment. (Advantageous)
