Job summary

Omnia Holdings in Northern Cape is seeking a Diesel Mechanic to diagnose and repair diesel vehicles, ensuring safety and SHERQ compliance. You will work under the Mechanic Foreman in the Operations unit, maintaining service records and managing parts inventory.

The role requires Grade 12 with Mathematics, a Code 10 licence and a Diesel Mechanic Trade Test Certificate (Red Seal). Experience in an explosives environment is advantageous and exposure to production processes is valued.

Qualifications

• 3 years' demonstrated experience as a Diesel Mechanic (Truck and LDV).
• 3 years' knowledge of machines and tools, including their design, repair and maintenance.
• Code 10 Drivers Licence required.
• Diesel Mechanic Trade Test Certificate (Red Seal) required.
• Experience in Explosives environment advantageous.
• Grade 12 Mathematics required.

Responsibilities

• Perform diagnostic tests on diesel vehicles and analyze results.
• Repair or replace engine, steering, transmission, braking or lighting components.
• Maintain detailed records of serviced vehicles.
• Maintain a parts inventory.
• Run diagnostics and perform preventative maintenance on service trucks.

Role Impact

The primary duties of a Diesel Mechanic include performing diagnostic tests on diesel vehicles to find faults, analyzing diagnostic test results and repairing or replacing engine, steering, transmission, braking or lighting system components.

Key Responsibilities

Productivity output

• Maintaining detailed records of serviced vehicles
• Ensure correct measurement of products are used to avoid production waste

Inventory handling

• Adhere to an inspection procedure checklist
• Maintaining a parts inventory

Mechanical ability

• Running diagnostic tests on vehicles.
• Analyzing diagnostic test results.
• Replacing vehicle engines, steering mechanisms, transmissions and braking systems.
• Checking vehicle lighting systems
• Performing preventative maintenance on service trucks

Adherence to sound SHERQ principles

• Wear the correct PPE
• Adhere to good housekeeping principles
• Ensure all SHERQ requirements are met

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

• Grade 12 (Mathematics)

• Diesel Mechanic Trade Test Certificate (Red Seal)

Experience

• 3 year's demonstrated experience as a Diesel Mechanic (Truck and LDV).
• 3 years demonstrated knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, repair, and maintenanc
• Proven working experience in an Explosives environment. (Advantageous)
