Job summary

Transnet NPA in Saldanha seeks a General Purpose Rating for port operations. You will work on deck and/or engine spaces, operate ropes, wires and deck gear, and participate in maintenance, housekeeping and safety drills to ensure safe vessel operations and reliable service for the client.

The role demands adherence to safety standards, teamwork, and proactive participation in berthing, mooring and emergency responses within the port environment.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of deck/engine room working practices per maritime standards.
• Strong safety awareness and adherence to procedures.
• Ability to work as part of a crew and resolve conflicts effectively.
• Commitment to client service and continuous improvement.
• Familiarity with SOLAS and basic shipboard safety policies.

Responsibilities

• Safely handle ropes, wires, winches, capstans and deck equipment.
• Maintain deck, accommodation, tank, void and engine room spaces.
• Assist in berthing, mooring and rigging procedures.
• Perform routine testing and participate in emergency drills.
• Keep areas clean, safe and compliant with procedures.
