Placements24 in South Africa is seeking a highly analytical Data Scientist for upstream Oil & Gas, a fully remote role leveraging advanced analytics to optimize exploration and production. You will develop and deploy ML models for reservoir characterization, production forecasting, and anomaly detection, working with seismic, well logs, and production data.

Collaborating with geoscientists and engineers, you will build data pipelines, dashboards, document methodologies, and stay at the forefront

Qualificações

• Minimum 6 years of experience as a Data Scientist in upstream Oil & Gas.
• Proficiency in Python or R and ML libraries.
• Strong SQL and database management skills.
• Experience with big data technologies is a plus.

About the Role

Our client, a leading innovator in the Oil & Gas industry, is seeking a highly analytical and skilled Data Scientist to join their upstream operations team. This position is fully remote, enabling you to leverage advanced analytics and machine learning techniques to derive insights from vast datasets, optimizing exploration and production activities. You will work with complex geological, geophysical, and operational data to build predictive models, enhance decision-making, and drive efficiency. This is a crucial role for transforming raw data into actionable intelligence.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and deploy machine learning models for reservoir characterization, production forecasting, and anomaly detection.
• Analyze large and complex datasets from various upstream sources (seismic, well logs, production, operational).
• Build data pipelines and ensure data quality and integrity.
• Collaborate with geoscientists, reservoir engineers, and drilling engineers to understand their data needs and challenges.
• Develop data visualizations and dashboards to communicate findings effectively.
• Stay abreast of the latest advancements in data science, machine learning, and AI.
• Design and conduct A/B tests and other experiments to validate models and hypotheses.
• Contribute to the development of data-driven strategies within the organization.
• Document methodologies, findings, and model performance.

Requirements

• Master's degree or Ph.D. in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Physics, or a related quantitative field.
• Minimum of 6 years of experience as a Data Scientist, with a focus on upstream Oil & Gas applications.
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Python or R, and associated data science libraries (e.g., scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch).
• Strong experience with SQL and database management.
• Experience with big data technologies (e.g., Spark, Hadoop) is a plus.
• Solid understanding of statistical modeling, machine learning algorithms, and data mining techniques.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
• Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
• Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fully remote environment.
