Job summary

FNB invites applications for a Data Scientist II position in Johannesburg. The role focuses on designing and implementing quantitative models for financial crime analytics, including AML/CFT and sanctions screening.

You will translate complex results into actionable business insights and document models for governance and audit purposes. We seek candidates with an Honours degree in a quantitative field and 2+ years’ experience, strong SAS/SQL/Python skills, and a collaborative mindset to work

Qualifications

Honours degree in a quantitative field.
2+ years hands-on experience in developing analytical models.
Strong scripting skills in SAS, SQL and Python.
Experience in financial crime, fraud detection, AML/CFT is advantageous.
Experience collaborating across multiple teams.

Responsibilities

Deliver model development, implementation and governance for financial crime analytics (AML/CFT, transaction monitoring, sanctions screening).
Translate technical solutions into actionable insights for non-technical stakeholders.
Provide clear technical documentation for models and processes.
Support junior Data Scientists in skill development.
Apply SAS, SQL and Python for data manipulation, modelling and automation.
Maintain governance standards and participate in monitoring and reviews.
