Job summary

Sasso Consulting (Pty) Ltd is seeking a Data Engineer to design, build, and optimise production ETL/ELT pipelines. You will work with data warehouses and modern data stack tools, ensuring data quality and governance in a cloud environment.

Strong Python and SQL skills are essential, with experience in Airflow/dbt and related technologies. The role focuses on enabling scalable data processing for analytics and AI/ML workflows, collaborating with cross-functional teams to maintain reliable data

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience in a relevant field.
• 3–5 years of professional experience in data engineering or related areas.
• Proven experience building and maintaining production ETL/ELT pipelines.
• Experience with data warehouses and data modelling in production environments.
• Strong Python and SQL skills with ability to optimise complex queries and data jobs.
• Hands-on experience with modern data stack tools and cloud data services.
• Experience with version control and CI/CD practices in production code.
• Understanding of data quality, governance, security and metadata practices.
• Awareness of AI/ML data engineering workflows and MLOps concepts.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, test, and maintain scalable ETL/ELT pipelines.
• Work with data warehouses/lakehouses and data models in production.
• Develop and optimise data ingestion from multiple sources (APIs, databases, SaaS, files).
• Ensure monitoring, error handling, and root-cause analysis for production jobs.
• Collaborate with data scientists to prepare clean datasets for ML workloads.
• Enable CI/CD and collaborative development for data code.
