Job summary

PBT Group is hiring a Data Engineer in Cape Town to join a high-performing data team. You will build and maintain scalable data platforms enabling enterprise analytics and BI.

The role covers end-to-end data engineering from ingestion to modeling, with cloud exposure (Azure/AWS, GCP advantageous) and a strong focus on data quality and governance. Ideal candidates have 5+ years in data engineering, solid SQL and ETL/ELT experience, and comfort working in Agile environments.

Qualifications

• Degree or Diploma in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related discipline.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable data pipelines for enterprise analytics and reporting.
• Build robust ETL/ELT processes to ingest, cleanse, transform, and deliver high-quality data.
• Develop reliable, reusable data integration solutions.
• Optimise data processing performance, scalability, and reliability.
• Design and develop enterprise Data Warehouse solutions.
• Implement dimensional models (Kimball/Inmon).
• Develop fact and dimension models for reporting and analytics.
• Ensure data quality and governance across datasets.
• Develop cloud-native data solutions using modern cloud technologies.
• Work with structured and semi-structured data from multiple sources.
• Support migration to cloud platforms and cost optimisation.
• Collaborate with Business Analysts, BI Developers, Data Scientists, Architects, and stakeholders.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies, planning, estimation, and design sessions.
• Write production-ready code and follow software engineering best practices.
• Perform code reviews and maintain documentation and data lineage.
• Support CI/CD and deployment automation.
• Monitor and troubleshoot pipelines and production environments.
