Job summary

Boardroom Appointments in Cape Town is seeking a Data Center Engineer to manage data center infrastructure, including servers and storage, to maximize uptime and service quality. You will troubleshoot hardware and application issues and implement backup technologies.

You will provide on-site or remote client support, coordinate with vendors, and maintain documentation, monitoring and change control processes to ensure reliable operation in large data centers.

Qualifications

• Certified VMware VCP (6.5/6.7/7.0)
• Strong backup/recovery technology knowledge (Veeam/Veritas)
• Minimum years in hardware break/fix on HPE platforms
• Experience on HPE Primera Storage
• Experience on HPE 3PAR
• Experience on HPE Synergy blades
• Experience on HPE StoreOnce
• Experience on HPE SimpliVity nodes
• Experience on Dell PowerEdge and related storage
• Experience on Cisco/Brocade MDS fabrics
• Experience implementing and configuring HPE and Dell EMC systems
• Solid understanding of SAN Fabric

Responsibilities

• Install, configure and test client infrastructure to ensure operational readiness
• Ensure software components are installed per client requirements
• Log incidents and escalations with detailed information for quick resolution
• Coordinate with client IT teams and vendors to diagnose issues
• Investigate first-line support calls and identify root causes
• Respond to alerts and escalate to L4 or vendors when needed
• Keep incidents updated with progress and resolutions in the system
• Ensure timely resolution of incidents and service requests
• Track, log, and report configuration items and changes
• Provide onsite and remote engineering support to clients as needed
• Escalate incidents to third-party vendors when required and own end-to-end
• Follow handover procedures for shift continuity
• Standby as per rotational schedule, including after-hours work
• Communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing
• Plan activities/projects with foresight for changing conditions
• Maintain a positive, proactive client-centric approach
• Commit to ongoing upskilling and certifications
