Job summary

Confluent in Cape Town – Pinelands is seeking a Data Analyst (Power BI / SQL) to build dashboards and perform SQL queries against our data warehouse, shaping insights for multiple business areas.

You will collaborate with data engineering and data science, translate questions into analyses, and contribute to KPI improvements. A numerate degree and strong English communication are essential; Power BI experience is required, Tableau/Looker also considered.

Qualifications

• 2–5 years’ experience as a BI Analyst, BI Developer, Data Analyst, SQL Developer, Insights Analyst or similar.
• Strong SQL – capable of writing, optimising and debugging complex queries.
• Solid experience building reports/dashboards in Power BI (Tableau or Looker also considered).
• Numerate degree in Mathematics, Statistics, CS, Data Science or related field.
• Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and ability to handle ambiguity.
• Proficient English communication, both written and spoken.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain Power BI reports and dashboards driving day‑to‑day decisions.
• Write performant SQL against the data warehouse to answer ad‑hoc questions and power recurring reporting.
• Partner with Data Engineering and Data Science to maximise data platform value.
• Translate business questions into analyses and analyses into actionable recommendations.
• Identify opportunities to improve KPI performance across supported business areas.

About the role

Data sits at the heart of the group. Our Analytics team partners with every part of the business, from collections and onboarding to marketing and operations, to turn raw data into decisions. This is a hands-on BI role with real scope to shape what gets built, how it gets used, and what changes as a result.

What you’ll do

• Build and maintain Power BI reports and dashboards that drive day-to-day decision-making across the group.
• Write performant SQL against our data warehouse to answer ad-hoc business questions and power recurring reporting.
• Partner with Data Engineering and Data Science to get the most out of our data platform and data assets.
• Translate vague business questions into clear analyses, and clear analyses into recommendations people can act on.
• Spot opportunities to improve performance against KPIs in each business area you support

What we’re looking for

• 2–5 years’ experience as a BI Analyst, BI Developer, Data Analyst, SQL Developer, Insights Analyst or similar.
• Strong SQL – you can write, optimise and debug complex queries without much hand-holding.
• Solid hands‑on experience building reports and dashboards in Power BI (Tableau or Looker also considered).
• A numerate degree – Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Data Science, Informatics, Information Systems, Data Engineering, Operations Research, or similar.
• Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and the ability to work through ambiguous problems.
• Comfortable working independently and as part of a team, with good written and verbal English.

Nice to have

• Exposure to Microsoft Fabric.
• DAX experience and Power BI data modelling beyond drag-and-drop visuals.
• Experience in financial services, credit, lending or a comparable regulated environment.
