Job summary

Africa Global Logistics South Africa (AGL South Africa) is seeking a skilled Customs Specialist to ensure compliance with customs laws and manage documentation for imports and exports. The role includes framing customs entries, advising clients on regulatory requirements, and handling refunds and examinations.

The position requires 3+ years in a customs role, knowledge of tariff headings, Incoterms, and understanding of SADC and EU trade agreements, with a strong focus on accurate documentation

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience in a customs role or similar.
• Knowledge of Customs Tariff headings and classification.
• Understanding of SADC and EU Trade Agreements.
• Excellent knowledge of Incoterms and international trade geography.

Responsibilities

• Ensure correct imports documentation is in place before clearance (e.g., clearing instructions, transport documents, invoice, packing list).
• Frame customs entries for all modes of transport and ensure compliance.
• Advise clients on imports requirements like Letters of Origin and permits.
• Handle refunds, stops and detentions, and manage physical examinations.

Mission Description

Job Purpose:
Assist companies that import and export products to stay in compliance with the customs law.

Profile

Job Function:

• Ensure that correct imports documentation is in place before clearance (Clearing instructions; Transport documents/Manifest; commercial invoice; packing list etc.)
• Responsible for proper Customs Valuation procedures are followed to avoid PCI penalties and application of customs valuation and determination.
• Responsible for advising clients on various Imports requirements like Letter of Origins, Imports Permits etc
• Experience framing Customs Entries; both Imports and Exports on all modes
• Able to resolve all Stops and detentions
• Responsible to frame customs entries; for all modes of transport
• Responsible to ensure customs compliance
• Responsible for refunds
• Responsible to handle Stops and detains
• Responsible to manage physical examinations
• Day to day office administration
• To be fully aware of and comply with current responsibilities and requirements of the relevant Acts, Regulations and standard applicable Quality, Health and Safety policies and procedures to maintain a safe workplace.
• Report all hazards, incidents, and injuries in accordance with legislation and company reporting procedures.
• Participate in programs and assessments to improve IMS system in the workplace.
• Any other delegated tasks deemed as reasonable as assigned by the reporting manager.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

• Grade 12
• Computer Literacy
• 3 years + experience in a Customs role or similar
• Must have a good knowledge of Customs Tariff headings and classification
• Good knowledge and understanding of SADC and EU Trade Agreements
• An excellent knowledge of the geography of International trade is required.
• Needs to have an excellent knowledge of Inco-terms
• Knowledge of GTS
