Job summary

Africa Global Logistics invites applications for the Customs Entry Clerk position in Durban, South Africa. This permanent, full-time role supports import/export compliance and customs documentation processing.

The successful candidate will handle customs entries, advise clients on regulatory requirements, and ensure compliance across all transport modes while maintaining administrative duties and IMS standards.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 and computer literacy are required.
• 3+ years of experience in a customs role or similar.
• Strong knowledge of Customs Tariff headings and classification.
• Good knowledge of SADC and EU Trade Agreements.
• Excellent knowledge of Incoterms and international trade geography.
• Knowledge of GTS.

Responsibilities

• Ensure correct imports documentation is in place before clearance (Clearing instructions; Transport documents/Manifest; commercial invoice; packing list).
• Advise clients on imports requirements like Letters of Origin and Imports Permits.
• Frame customs entries for all modes of transport (Imports/Exports).
• Ensure compliance with customs regulations and VAT/PCI procedures.
• Handle stops, detentions, refunds and physical examinations as needed.
• Maintain day-to-day office administration and IMS system compliance.

Job Purpose

Assist companies that import and export products to stay in compliance with the customs law.

Profile

Job Function

• Ensure that correct imports documentation is in place before clearance (Clearing instructions; Transport documents/Manifest; commercial invoice; packing list etc.)
• Responsible for proper Customs Valuation procedures are followed to avoid PCI penalties and application of customs valuation and determination.
• Responsible for advising clients on various Imports requirements like Letter of Origins, Imports Permits etc
• Experience framing Customs Entries; both Imports and Exports on all modes
• Able to resolve all Stops and detentions
• Responsible to frame customs entries; for all modes of transport
• Responsible to ensure customs compliance
• Responsible for refunds
• Responsible to handle Stops and detains
• Responsible to manage physical examinations
• Day to day office administration
• To be fully aware of and comply with current responsibilities and requirements of the relevant Acts, Regulations and standard applicable Quality, Health and Safety policies and procedures to maintain a safe workplace.
• Report all hazards, incidents, and injuries in accordance with legislation and company reporting procedures.
• Participate in programs and assessments to improve IMS system in the workplace.
• Any other delegated tasks deemed as reasonable as assigned by the reporting manager.
• Note: Manual file creation is forbidden, override approval from management to be obtained

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

• Grade 12
• Computer Literacy
• 3 years + experience in a Customs role or similar
• Must have a good knowledge of Customs Tariff headings and classification
• Good knowledge and understanding of SADC and EU Trade Agreements
• An excellent knowledge of the geography of International trade is required.
• Needs to have an excellent knowledge of Inco-terms
• Knowledge of GTS
