Job summary

On Line Personnel seeks an Exports Customs Controller in the Eastern Cape to manage export shipments, ensure compliance with SARS and customs regulations, and handle related documentation using ShipShape and Excel.

The role requires 4–5 years of export operations experience, strong numerical and analytical skills, and the ability to work overtime during peak seasons. Own transport is essential for on-site work.

Qualifications

• Certification in Customs Clearing and Forwarding is required.
• Extensive knowledge of customs and excise requirements.
• Intermediate Excel experience and strong computer skills.
• Working knowledge of ShipShape.

Responsibilities

• Register shipments on Shipshape.
• Frame and EDI Bills of Entries to SARS within prescribed periods.
• Process VOCs and certificates (Origin, EUR1, SADC, GSP).
• Submit documents to shipping lines for final release and Navis update.
• Stay updated on industry changes and work as part of a team or independently.

Job Position: Exports Customs Controller

Ref: 4661

Salary: R20 000 to R25 000 per month CTC commensurate with experience and qualification

Qualifications / Requirements:

• Certification in Customs Clearing and Forwarding (Logistics Diploma will be an advantage)
• Extensive knowledge of the customs and excise requirements
• Extensive computer and intermediate level Excel experience
• Working knowledge of ShipShape
• Solid Clearing and Forwarding Exports experience required
• Sound knowledge of shipping documents and procedures required
• Attention to detail and accuracy
• Ability to deal with repetition and cope under stress / volumes and prioritize
• Willing to work long hours in season
• Own transport to work and back essential – no public transport
• Willing to work overtime
• Knowledge of Customs and Excise requirements for movement of goods outside South Africa
• Good mathematical and analytical skill sets
• Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills with ability to assist with problem-solving and delivering on expectations
• Working experience of 4 to 5 years in Operations through Export activities for medium / large business

Key Performance Areas:

• Registration of shipments on Shipshape
• Frame and EDI Bills of Entries (Export - Sea freight focused) to SARS within the prescribed period according to the SARS Act
• Submission of cargo dues via Shipshape or Ports On Line
• Processing of VOC's
• Check the accuracy of source documents and information, double-checking data and a keen eye for picking up errors or potential errors
• Processing of Certificate of Origins, EUR1, SADC and GSP certificates
• Knowledge of break bulk and bulk shipments
• Processing on landing delivery and forwarding orders
• Submission of relevant documents to the shipping lines for final release and Navis update
• Knowledge of Import / Export Control Act
• Must be able to work within a team and also work unsupervised
• Staying abreast of industry changes
