Job summary

Raubex Group Ltd, a Cape Town-based subsidiary, seeks an experienced Contracts Manager to oversee a portfolio of contracts nationwide. You will direct site teams, manage commercial and contractual issues, and coordinate tendering activities from Durbanville to other sites across South Africa.

The role requires extensive civil construction experience, strong contract knowledge, and proven ability to drive profitability while maintaining safety and quality standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor or higher in civil engineering is required.
  • Registration with ECSA or SACPCMP is mandatory.
  • Minimum 10 years in construction, with site Agent or Contracts Manager experience.
  • Hands-on reinforced concrete construction experience.
  • Knowledge of GCC, FIDIC and NEC contracts; renewables contracts familiarity.
  • Ability to price work and support tender office activities.
  • Familiar with OHSA Act and construction regulations.
  • Proficient in MS Office; CCS Candy is advantageous.
  • South African citizen with own transport and Cape Town accommodation.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organise and direct activities on contracts from award to close-out.
  • Direct site staffing across multiple contracts and ensure proper resourcing.
  • Plan and manage labour, plant, materials and subcontractors across portfolios.
  • Manage commercial/contractual elements: notices, extensions, variations and final accounts.
  • Prepare/ negotiate contract terms with clients, engineers, suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Price variations, rate-only items and new work; support tender preparation.
  • Monitor costs, revenue, cash flow and forecast final results; target profits.
  • Develop construction programmes and address delays or emergencies on site.
  • Maintain relationships with clients, engineers, consultants and authorities.
  • Support growth and secure repeat business for the company.

EMPA Structures is a Cape Town based subsidiary of the Raubex Group, specializing in the construction and rehabilitation of reinforced concrete structures. Our work covers water and wastewater treatment works, reservoirs and water-retaining structures, bridge construction for national and provincial roads authorities, concrete rehabilitation, transmission line and substation foundations, and renewable energy infrastructure. We are seeking an experienced, highly motivated and result-oriented Contracts Manager to take responsibility for a portfolio of contracts across South Africa.

Minimum Requirements:
  • BSc, BEng, BEng Tech or BTech in Civil Engineering.
  • Registered with ECSA or SACPCMP. Registration is a requirement for this position.
  • Minimum of 10 years' experience in the construction industry, with proven experience at Site Agent or Contracts Manager level.
  • Hands-on experience in the construction of reinforced concrete structures is essential.
  • Sound knowledge of the common forms of contract used in the industry, such as GCC, FIDIC, NEC, and the bespoke contract forms used in the renewable energy sector.
  • Able to price work and prepare tenders, or to support the tender office with method, production rates and site input.
  • Good working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and construction regulations.
  • Computer literate, in particular the MS Office suite. Working knowledge of CCS "Candy" will be an advantage.
  • Strong sense of integrity.
  • Objectivity, discretion and diplomacy.
  • Able to work well under pressure and to manage more than one contract at a time.
  • Valid driver's licence and own transport.
  • Own accommodation in Cape Town. The position is based at our Durbanville office, and national travel will be required.
  • South African citizen.
Job Specifications:
  • Plan, organise and direct all activities on the contracts under your control, from award through to final completion and close-out.
  • Manage full site staffing across multiple contracts, including site agents, foremen and site teams, and make sure each contract is properly resourced.
  • Plan and manage the allocation of labour, plant, materials and subcontractors across the portfolio, and move resources between contracts where needed.
  • Manage the commercial and contractual side of each contract, including notices, extensions of time, variations, claims and final accounts.
  • Prepare and negotiate contract terms, changes and additions with clients, engineers, suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Price variation orders, rate-only items and new work, and prepare or support tenders for new contracts.
  • Manage cost on the contracts under your control. Prepare and report monthly on cost, revenue, cash flow and forecast final results, and make sure each contract meets its profit targets.
  • Prepare, review and manage construction programmes, and take action to deal with delays, weather, industrial action or emergencies on site.
  • Meet regularly with clients, engineers, consultants, subcontractors, authorities and local community structures, and build and maintain sound working relationships with all of them.
  • Maintain strong relationships with existing clients and engineers, and help identify and secure new work and repeat business for the company.
  • Accept the legal appointments required of you under the Occupational Health and Safety Act, and take responsibility for health, safety, environmental and quality performance on the contracts under your control.
  • Order and control the supply of materials, plant and equipment needed to complete the works.
  • Read and explain drawings, specifications and contract terms to site staff, office staff and clients.
  • Maintain sound industrial relations by applying company policies correctly and consistently at all times.
  • Develop the site staff under your control and support their growth into more senior roles.
