Job summary

IgniteByte Digital is seeking an Information & Content Migration Specialist on contract to lead the migration of website content and assets into a redesigned web platform. You will ensure all publications, data products and documents are preserved, correctly classified and fully searchable with no broken links.

Work with the client’s information centre, communications staff and the project manager to deliver a complete migration, maintaining URL integrity and documentation throughout the waves

Qualifications

• Education aligned to Information Science/Management with a national diploma.
• 3–5 years' demonstrable experience in website content migration or information management.
• Hands-on CMS experience (WordPress, Drupal, Joomla, Umbraco, SharePoint or equivalent) including bulk import/export.
• Advanced Excel/Power Query and scripting for bulk operations (PowerShell, Python, SQL, PHP).
• Strong knowledge of metadata standards, taxonomy and document classification.
• Understanding of POPIA and records management principles, WCAG 2.1, and SEO-safe migration.

Responsibilities

• Audit the website and repositories; create inventory and ROT analysis.
• Design source-to-target content model including taxonomy and vocabularies.
• Prepare content for migration: de-duplication, naming normalisation, format conversion.
• Build and run migration scripts; execute pilot and production waves.
• Preserve URL integrity with redirects; protect search rankings and references.
• Validate waves with counts, checksums, metadata integrity, rendering checks.
• Maintain migration logs and remediation tracker; QA content in new CMS.
• Train client content owners on the destination platform.
• Produce closeout documentation and governance handover.
