Qualifications

• Ability to work independently and manage multiple sites.
• Registration with SAIOSH or equivalent preferred.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transport.

About the Role

Our client, a progressive construction company operating across Mahikeng, North West, is seeking a dedicated Construction Safety Officer. This role is paramount in ensuring a safe and healthy working environment on all construction sites. The Safety Officer will be responsible for developing, implementing, and enforcing comprehensive health and safety policies and procedures in line with South African legislation and industry best practices. The ideal candidate will be proactive, vigilant, and possess excellent communication and training skills. This is a critical role that contributes directly to the well-being of our workforce and the successful, compliant execution of our construction projects in the Mahikeng, North West area and beyond.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain the site-specific health and safety plan.
• Conduct regular site safety inspections and audits to identify potential hazards.
• Investigate all accidents, incidents, and near misses, and recommend corrective actions.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant health and safety legislation, including the OHS Act and Construction Regulations.
• Provide safety training and toolbox talks to site personnel.
• Monitor the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensure its adequacy.
• Maintain safety records and documentation, including registers, permits, and reports.
• Advise management on all health and safety matters.
• Liaise with external safety bodies and inspectors.
• Promote a strong safety culture throughout the organization.

Requirements

• National Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent qualification.
• Registration with a relevant professional body (e.g., SAIOSH).
• Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Construction Safety Officer.
• Thorough knowledge of South African health and safety legislation and regulations.
• Experience in conducting risk assessments and developing safe work procedures.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and training skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple sites if required.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Valid driver's license.
• Experience in the Mahikeng, North West region is advantageous.
