The role requires a National Diploma in Safety Management, SAIOSH registration, and at least 3 years in a construction HSE role.

About the Role

Our client, a prominent contractor specializing in industrial construction, is seeking a dedicated Construction Health and Safety Officer to join their team in Nelspruit. This role is critical for ensuring a safe and healthy working environment on all project sites, in compliance with South African legislation and company policies. You will be responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring health and safety programs, conducting site inspections, risk assessments, and providing safety training to all personnel. The ideal candidate will be highly vigilant, proactive, and possess excellent communication skills to promote a strong safety culture. This is an important position contributing to the well-being of workers on significant industrial projects in Mpumalanga. You will be a key guardian of safety, ensuring all operations meet the highest standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and manage site-specific health and safety plans.
• Conduct regular safety inspections and audits of construction sites and equipment.
• Identify potential hazards and implement corrective and preventive actions.
• Investigate all accidents and incidents, reporting findings and recommending preventative measures.
• Ensure compliance with OHS Act 85 of 1993 and relevant construction regulations.
• Deliver health and safety training to all site personnel, including induction programs.

Requirements

• National Diploma in Safety Management or equivalent qualification.
• Registered with the South African Institute for Safety and Health Management (SAIOSH) or equivalent professional body.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Health and Safety Officer in the construction industry, preferably with industrial projects.
• In-depth knowledge of South African OHS Act and construction regulations.
• Strong understanding of risk assessment and hazard identification techniques.Excellent communication, training, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and under pressure.
• Proficiency in relevant safety management software is a plus.
• Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to sites across Mpumalanga.
