About the Role

Our client, a dynamic construction group, is seeking a dedicated and experienced Construction Health and Safety Manager to oversee and implement comprehensive safety programs across various projects in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga . This critical role ensures the well-being of all personnel on site and the adherence to stringent health and safety regulations. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of construction site hazards, risk assessment, and the implementation of effective safety protocols. You will be responsible for developing, managing, and enforcing safety policies and procedures to maintain a zero-harm environment. This is a vital position for ensuring operational safety and compliance within the construction sector in this economically active region.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and manage the company's health and safety management system on all construction sites.
• Conduct regular site inspections and safety audits to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
• Develop and deliver health and safety training programs for all site personnel, including contractors and employees.
• Investigate all accidents, incidents, and near misses, documenting findings and recommending corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
• Ensure compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and other relevant legislation in Nelspruit .
• Develop and maintain emergency preparedness and response plans.
• Promote a strong safety culture throughout the organization and on all project sites.
• Liaise with clients, regulatory bodies (e.g., Department of Labour inspectors), and other stakeholders on health and safety matters.
• Manage the provision and maintenance of safety equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE).

Requirements

• A National Diploma or Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, or a related field.
• Registration as a Safety Professional with a recognized body (e.g., SAIOSH).
• Minimum of 6 years of experience in a health and safety role within the construction industry.
• Thorough knowledge of construction hazards, risk assessment techniques, and safety management systems.
• In-depth understanding of South African OHS Act, Construction Regulations, and other relevant legislation.
• Strong leadership, communication, and training skills.
• Ability to conduct thorough investigations and implement effective corrective actions.
• Proficiency in developing safety plans, conducting audits, and reporting on safety performance.
• Experience working in the Mpumalanga region is advantageous.
