Job summary

The Key Recruitment Group is seeking a Construction Health & Safety Officer for a Cape Town-based role with a building refurbishment company. The position requires SACPCMP CHSO registration (or CHSM), strong knowledge of construction safety laws, and the ability to manage safety documentation and audits.

Responsibilities include conducting risk assessments, leading safety meetings, ensuring regulatory compliance, and coordinating subcontractor safety.

Qualifications

• Matric/Grade 12 is required.
• Minimum five years' experience in the construction industry.
• SACPCMP registration as CHSO or CHSM accepted.
• Understanding of applicable legislation.
• IT literacy: Excel, Word and PDF.

Responsibilities

• Keep up to date and ensure compliance with applicable legal and other requirements.
• Compile and consolidate Safety Files.
• Investigate incidents, determine root cause, and implement corrective actions.
• Conduct safety inspections and develop risk assessments for new activities and machinery.
• Report on health and safety activities to management.
• Compile statistics.
• Manage Subcontractor Compliance.
• Asbestos Inventory & Management.
• Lead health and safety meetings.
• Identify hazards and implement risk reductions in the workplace.
• Investigate health-related complaints and issues with management.
• Listen to employee concerns and address them with management.
• Identify hazardous waste and correct disposal procedures.
• Promote safety initiatives.
• Inspect equipment regularly for safe use.
• Obey lawful instructions from line management.

A Building Refurbishment Company is looking for a Health and Safety Officer to be based in Cape Town.

Requirements for the position

• Matric/Grade 12.
• Minimum five years' experience in the construction industry.
• Registered by South African Council for the Project & Construction Management Professions (SACPCMP) as an CHSO. CHSM (Construction Health and Safety Officer) also accepted.
• Understanding of applicable legislation.
• IT literate (Excell/Word/PDF).
• Must be able to work to a deadline.
• Must be able to works nights (where applicable).

Main Responsibilities (but not limited to these only)

• Keep up to date and ensure compliance with applicable legal & other requirements.
