Job summary

EXCELLENCE IN PGM's on site in South Africa seeks a Compressor Operator/Driver to operate and monitor high-pressure compressors and related equipment. You will perform pre-use and pre-start inspections, maintain hourly logbook entries, and promptly report anomalies to the foreman.

The role requires Grade 12 and at least 2 years as Engineering Assistant, with strong housekeeping, reporting, and communication skills to ensure a safe, continuous air supply.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 or NQF equivalent 4 is essential.
• 2 years' experience as Engineering Assistant is essential.

Responsibilities

• Conduct pre-use inspections and complete required check list.
• Conduct pre-start checks before starting/stopping compressors.
• Record and report irregularities to foreman before starting/stopping.
• Ensure hourly logbook readings of running compressors.
• Maintain continuous supply of compressed air to the mine and report anomalies.
• Monitor machinery performance hourly, 24/7, 360 days a year, and maintain the Compressor Logbook.
• Report non-conformances and emergencies to responsible persons.

PURPOSE OF THE JOB: To be responsible for the operating and monitoring of the compressors and all auxiliary equipment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

• Grade 12 or NQF equivalent 4 is essential.
• 2 years' experience as Engineering Assistant is essential

COMPETENCIES:

• Conduct Hazard Identification & Risk Assessment (HIRA)
• Knowledge of maintaining housekeeping standards in the area
• Knowledge of completing check lists
• Reporting Skills
• Communication Skills
• Reading and writing skills

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:

• Conducts and ensures pre-use inspections and completion of the required check list
• Conducts pre-start, check list before starting and stopping compressors
• Records and reports any irregularities noted on the compressors to the respective foreman before starting and
• stopping the compressors
• Ensures regular readings recording of the running compressors are captured in the Logbook on an hourly basis
• Maintains a constant supply of compressed air to the mine and report any anomalies when noted
• Monitors and records machinery performance on a compressor on hourly basis and 24/7 to 360 days a year in a
• Compressor Logbook
• Reports any non-conformances and any arising deemed emergency to the responsible persons
• Responsible for the conduction of plant emergency shutdown procedures when required to at a very convenient
• time to safeguard the compressor equipment
