Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a compassionate Family Support Counsellor to join our Cape Town-based community care team. The role focuses on family well-being, parenting guidance, and therapeutic interventions, with office-based duties in the Western Cape.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Psychology, Social Work, or Counselling.
• Registration with HPCSA or SACSSP.
• Minimum 5 years' post-qualification experience in family counselling or social work.
• Strong knowledge of family systems theory and therapeutic modalities.
• Understanding of child protection legislation and best practices.

Responsibilities

• Conduct thorough assessments of family needs, dynamics, and strengths.
• Develop and implement evidence-based family support and counselling plans.
• Provide individual, couple, and family counselling sessions.
• Offer guidance on parenting skills, child behaviour management, and conflict resolution.
• Facilitate family interventions and support groups.
• Connect families with community resources such as educational programs, healthcare services, and social welfare initiatives.
• Maintain detailed and confidential client records, adhering to ethical guidelines.
• Collaborate with schools, healthcare providers, and other agencies involved in a family's care.
• Develop and deliver workshops on relevant topics for families and community members.
• Monitor family progress and evaluate the effectiveness of interventions.
