Job summary

Ecolution Consulting, a boutique green building and sustainability consulting firm based in Cape Town, seeks an engineer to lead commissioning on Green Star and LEED projects. This 12-month contract offers meaningful impact across Africa, with potential for longer-term opportunities based on performance and business needs.

You will review MEP designs, develop commissioning plans, perform site visits, and document results, collaborating with clients and design teams to resolve issues and deliver

Qualifications

• 3 to 5 years' professional experience in building commissioning, energy auditing or building services design
• Strong knowledge of building systems: HVAC, electrical, wet services and controls
• Ability to read and interpret plans, diagrams and drawings and building system designs
• Familiarity with recognised commissioning standards such as ASHRAE Guideline 0 or CIBSE Commissioning Code M
• Exposure to projects pursuing green building certification, such as Green Star, LEED or EDGE

Responsibilities

• Lead the commissioning process on projects targeting Green Star or LEED green building ratings
• Review mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) design documents, drawings and basis of design documentation, with a view to optimising efficiency, functionality, accessibility and maintainability
• Develop and implement commissioning plans, pre-functional checklists and functional performance test scripts in line with CIBSE and ASHRAE guidelines
• Conduct site visits and inspections, and witness functional testing of building systems
• Identify and troubleshoot issues in the field, working with clients, contractors and design teams to resolve them
• Prepare commissioning reports, system manuals and project documentation
• Facilitate and lead the tuning process on Green Star and LEED rated buildings
• Compile Green Star and LEED commissioning submission documents
• Prepare project proposal documentation
• Manage project tasks to budget and schedule

Their team of engineers and green building specialists works on high-profile projects across Africa, providing consulting and building commissioning services that help clients achieve Green Star, LEED and EDGE certifications. Some projects include the African Medical Centre of Excellence in Abuja, Hotel Verde in Cape Town, and the PwC Tower in Midrand.

This role is offered as an initial 12-month contract, providing an opportunity for both the successful candidate and the organisation to establish a strong working relationship and ensure alignment.

The position offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact through delivering successful commissioning outcomes, with the potential for longer-term opportunities based on business requirements, performance, and mutual fit.

What You Will Do

Requirements

Essential

• A bachelor's degree or higher in engineering. Mechanical, electrical, electronic, civil, structural, process or industrial engineering are all relevant, provided the focus is building services related
• 3 to 5 years' professional experience in building commissioning, energy auditing or building services design
• Strong working knowledge of building systems: HVAC, electrical, wet services and controls
• Working familiarity with recognised commissioning standards such as ASHRAE Guideline 0 or CIBSE Commissioning Code M
• Exposure to projects pursuing green building certification, such as Green Star, LEED or EDGE
• The ability to read and interpret plans, diagrams and drawings and building system designs
• Strong problem-solving and analytical abilityStrong technical and report writing ability
• The ability to manage multiple projects concurrently and work effectively in a team

Advantageous

• Green Star Accredited Professional (AP) or LEED AP
• Certified Measurement and Verification Professional (CMVP) or similar
• Professional registration (PrEng or PrTech Eng)
