About the Role

Our client, a thriving agricultural enterprise with significant operations in the fertile Winelands region of Paarl, Western Cape , is seeking to appoint a skilled Commercial Law Advisor. This vital role will provide essential legal support across various business functions, focusing on contractual matters, regulatory compliance, and risk management. The advisor will work closely with management and operational teams to ensure the company's commercial activities are conducted within a sound legal framework. Key Responsibilities

• Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of commercial agreements, including supply agreements, service contracts, and distribution agreements.
• Provide legal advice on compliance with relevant legislation affecting the agricultural sector, including environmental, labour, and land use laws.
• Assist in managing corporate governance matters and ensuring compliance with the Companies Act.
• Conduct legal research and provide concise advice on specific commercial issues.
• Support the procurement and sales departments with contract-related matters.
• Advise on dispute resolution and, if necessary, manage legal claims and litigation.
• Develop and maintain standard legal templates and policies for the business.
• Liaise with external legal counsel as needed for specialized advice or representation.
• Ensure that all legal documentation is accurate, compliant, and aligned with business objectives.
• Stay updated on changes in commercial law and industry regulations.

Requirements

• A Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from a recognized university.
• Admitted as an Attorney or Advocate of the High Court of South Africa.
• A minimum of 5 years of post-qualification experience in commercial law, preferably with experience advising businesses in the agricultural sector.
• Strong understanding of contract law, corporate law, and relevant regulatory frameworks.
• Proven ability to draft and negotiate complex commercial agreements.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
