Job summary

Greys Personnel in Stellenbosch is seeking an experienced Code 14 heavy-duty truck driver to transport refrigerated containers and perishables between ports, depots and customer sites.

You will perform pre-trip inspections, ensure cargo is secured and temperatures are monitored, and report any defects or risks to product quality. Cross-border trips may be required; overtime and weekend work are expected during peak periods.

Qualifications

• Valid Code 14 / EC driver's licence.
• Valid PrDP; passport may be advantageous.
• Code 14 truck driving experience.
• Tautliner truck experience advantageous.
• Experience operating heavy-duty trucks including Volvo, Scania, Mercedes-Benz and other makes/models.
• Experience in container transport including port operations, depots, terminals and cold stores.
• Understanding of refrigerated container transport and handling perishable/temperature-sensitive goods.
• Knowledge of gensets, refrigerated containers, temperature monitoring and reporting issues.
• Knowledge of container handling, cargo securing and safe transportation procedures.
• Willingness to undertake occasional cross-border trips when operationally required.
• Willingness to work overtime, weekends and public holidays during peak periods.
• Good communication with operations teams, ports and depots.
• Good time management, reliability and ability to work independently.
• Own working cell phone.
• Strong commitment to road safety, vehicle maintenance and safe delivery of cargo.

Responsibilities

• Safely operate Code 14 / EC heavy-duty trucks, including Volvo, Scania, Mercedes-Benz and other makes/models.
• Transport refrigerated containers, reefer containers and perishable goods between ports, depots, cold stores, customers and other locations.
• Ensure containers and cargo are properly secured and transported per safety requirements.
• Monitor gensets and refrigerated containers to maintain required cargo temperatures.
• Identify and report temperature deviations, refrigeration issues, genset faults, mechanical problems or risks to product quality.
• Conduct daily pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and report defects and maintenance needs.
• Complete transport documents, delivery notes, container documentation and vehicle inspection checklists accurately.
• Comply with road traffic legislation, safety procedures and port/terminal/depot operating requirements.
• Communicate with Operations teams, customers, ports and depots regarding schedules, delays and issues.
• Maintain cleanliness and good condition of the assigned truck.
• Ensure deliveries are completed safely, on time and per cargo handling/temperature control requirements.
• Undertake occasional cross-border transport trips as required.
• Work overtime, weekends and public holidays during peak seasons.

• Ensure containers and cargo are properly secured, handled and transported in accordance with safety requirements.
• Monitor gensets and refrigerated containers to ensure that required cargo temperatures are maintained throughout transportation.
• Identify and immediately report temperature deviations, refrigeration issues, genset faults, mechanical problems or any risks to product quality.
• Conduct daily pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and report defects, damage and maintenance requirements.
• Complete transport documents, delivery notes, container documentation, vehicle inspection checklists and other required paperwork accurately.
• Comply with road traffic legislation, company safety procedures and port, terminal and depot operating requirements.
• Communicate effectively with the Operations team, customers, ports and depots regarding collection and delivery schedules, delays and operational issues.
• Maintain the cleanliness and good condition of the assigned truck.
• Ensure deliveries are completed safely, on time and in accordance with cargo handling and temperature control requirements.
• Undertake occasional cross-border transport trips when required.
• Work overtime, weekends and public holidays when operationally required, particularly during peak seasonal periods.
