Job summary

Placements24 seeks an experienced Coastal Engineer to join our East London team, focusing on erosion control, port and harbour design, and climate-change adaptation using hydrodynamics and sediment transport to build resilient coastal infrastructure.

You will work on Eastern Cape projects in a hybrid work setting, collaborating with environmental scientists and stakeholders to deliver sustainable coastal solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with a specialization in Coastal or Maritime Engineering.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in coastal engineering design and project management.
• Pr Eng registration with ECSA preferred.
• Proficiency in Delft3D, Mike 21 and related hydrodynamic analysis tools.
• Experience with environmental impact assessments in coastal areas.
• Strong analytical skills and ability to work in a hybrid team environment.

Responsibilities

• Conduct studies on wave action, tides, currents, and sediment transport in coastal zones.
• Design and oversee the implementation of coastal protection structures, such as breakwaters, seawalls, and groynes.
• Develop designs for port, harbour, and marina facilities, considering hydrodynamic forces and navigation requirements.
• Assess the impacts of coastal development and climate change, including sea-level rise and storm surge.
• Prepare technical reports, modeling outputs, and design documents for coastal projects.
• Collaborate with environmental scientists, marine biologists, and other stakeholders on coastal management strategies.

About the Role

Our client is seeking a specialized Coastal Engineer to join their team based in East London . This role is dedicated to addressing the unique challenges posed by coastal environments, including erosion control, port and harbour design, and the impact of climate change. You will apply principles of hydrodynamics, sediment transport, and coastal processes to design resilient infrastructure and protection measures. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in coastal engineering and a passion for working on projects that protect and enhance the coastline of the Eastern Cape .

Key Responsibilities
