Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an experienced Civil Engineer to lead coastal and maritime projects in East London. You will design breakwaters, jetties, seawalls and port infrastructure, with oversight of planning, drawings and calculations.

The role requires a Master’s degree in Civil Engineering with a coastal/maritime focus, 7+ years of relevant experience, and Pr. Eng registration with ECSA. Proficiency in Mike 21 and Delft3D is preferred, along with strong communication and management skills.

Responsibilities

About the Role

Our client is seeking a skilled Civil Engineer with expertise in coastal and maritime structures to join their team in East London. This role involves the design, planning, and oversight of projects such as breakwaters, jetties, seawalls, and port infrastructure. You will be instrumental in developing robust solutions to protect coastlines and enhance maritime operations within the Eastern Cape. The ideal candidate has a strong background in hydraulic engineering and a keen understanding of environmental considerations pertinent to coastal environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and analyse coastal and maritime structures, considering wave action, currents, and sediment transport.
• Prepare detailed engineering drawings, calculations, and specifications for marine construction projects.
• Conduct site investigations, bathymetric surveys, and environmental impact assessments for coastal developments.
• Manage project execution, including contractor supervision, quality control, and budget management.
• Ensure compliance with relevant design codes, standards, and environmental regulations for maritime projects.
• Collaborate with clients, regulatory bodies, and other engineering disciplines to deliver successful projects.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Civil Engineering with a specialization in Coastal or Maritime Engineering.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in the design and management of coastal and maritime structures.
• Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng) registration with ECSA is required.
• Proficiency in specialized software for coastal modelling (e.g., Mike 21, Delft3D) and structural analysis.
• Strong understanding of naval architecture principles, hydraulics, and environmental impacts on coastal zones.
