Placements24 is seeking a Cloud Network Engineer to design, implement, and manage scalable cloud networking for our telecom client. The role focuses on AWS/Azure/GCP environments, VPCs, routing, security, and automation using Terraform and Ansible.

The successful candidate will work remotely within South Africa, collaborating with distributed teams to ensure secure, high-availability networking for cloud-native services and hybrid connectivity.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field.
• 7+ years in network engineering with 3+ years cloud networking.
• Proven design/management experience on AWS, Azure or GCP.

Responsibilities

• Design, deploy, and maintain scalable cloud networking infrastructure (AWS/Azure/GCP).
• Manage VPCs, subnets, routing, and security groups in cloud environments.
• Configure cloud-native networking services: load balancers, firewalls, VPN gateways.
• Automate network provisioning with IaC (Terraform, Ansible).
• Integrate on-prem networks with cloud via Direct Connect/ExpressRoute/VPN.
• Monitor performance, identify bottlenecks, optimize cloud deployments.
• Troubleshoot complex network issues in hybrid/multi-cloud setups.
• Uphold network security best practices in cloud contexts.
• Collaborate with development and infra teams to ensure service delivery.
• Stay updated on cloud networking trends.

About the Role

Our client, a leading telecommunications innovator, is seeking a highly skilled Cloud Network Engineer to join their expanding operations. This role is based in Pretoria, Gauteng, and is crucial for designing, implementing, and managing the network infrastructure that supports our client's cloud-based services and virtualized network functions. You will be instrumental in architecting robust, scalable, and secure cloud networking solutions, enabling the delivery of cutting-edge telecommunications services. Key Responsibilities

• Design, deploy, and maintain highly available and scalable cloud networking infrastructure (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP).


• Implement and manage virtual private clouds (VPCs), subnets, routing, and security groups within cloud environments.


• Configure and manage cloud-native networking services, including load balancers, firewalls, and VPN gateways.


• Develop and automate network provisioning, configuration, and management using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools (e.g., Terraform, Ansible).


• Integrate on-premises networks with cloud environments using technologies like Direct Connect, ExpressRoute, or VPN.


• Monitor network performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement optimizations for cloud deployments.


• Troubleshoot complex network issues across hybrid and multi-cloud environments.


• Ensure network security best practices are implemented and maintained within the cloud.


• Collaborate with application development and infrastructure teams to ensure seamless service delivery.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.


• Minimum of 7 years of experience in network engineering, with at least 3 years focused on cloud networking.


• Proven experience designing and managing networks in major cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).


• Strong understanding of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP, BGP, OSPF) and their application in cloud environments.


• Hands-on experience with IaC tools like Terraform, CloudFormation, or Ansible.


• Familiarity with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) and their networking requirements.


• Experience with network security principles and tools in a cloud context.


• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.


• Ability to work independently and as part of a distributed team.


• Experience within the Pretoria, Gauteng telecom sector or similar is beneficial.
