The role requires leadership, engineering expertise, and hands-on management across planning, design review, construction and handover with a focus on budget, timelines, safety and quality.

Responsibilities include supervision of earthworks, pavement and drainage, stakeholder liaison with clients and authorities, and on-site reporting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (accredited)
• Strong knowledge of SANS standards and SA legislation
• 6-8 years of proven road/highway construction project management experience
• Proficiency with MS Project and CAD software
• Excellent communication, leadership and stakeholder management skills
• Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to project sites

About the Role

Our client is seeking a proactive and experienced Civil Project Engineer to oversee the successful execution of road and highway construction projects in Centurion, Gauteng . This is a hands-on role requiring strong leadership and technical expertise to manage all phases of the project lifecycle, from planning and design review to construction and handover. You will be responsible for ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards, adhering to all safety and regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, fostering effective collaboration between design teams, contractors, and clients. We are looking for a driven professional who can navigate the complexities of large-scale infrastructure development and contribute to the enhancement of transportation networks in the region.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and coordinate all aspects of road and highway construction projects, ensuring adherence to project plans, specifications, and timelines.
• Review engineering designs, drawings, and specifications for accuracy, feasibility, and compliance with relevant standards.
• Supervise on-site construction activities, including earthworks, pavement construction, drainage, and traffic management.
• Ensure strict adherence to health, safety, and environmental regulations on all project sites.
• Manage project budgets, track expenditures, and approve invoices and progress claims.
• Liaise with clients, government agencies, subcontractors, and suppliers to resolve issues and ensure smooth project progression.
• Conduct regular site inspections and progress meetings, preparing detailed reports for senior management.

Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited institution.
• Professional registration with ECSA as a Pr Eng or Pr Tech Eng is highly desirable.
• A minimum of 6-8 years of proven experience in managing road and highway construction projects.
• Strong knowledge of road construction techniques, materials, and quality control measures.
• Proficiency in project management software (e.g., MS Project) and CAD software.
• Excellent understanding of relevant South African National Standards (SANS) and legislation.
• Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate project teams.
• Strong negotiation, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to project sites as needed.
