Job summary

EdUpStairs in Worcester, Western Cape, is seeking a general grounds maintenance assistant to support upkeep of canals, gardens and office grounds across schemes in the Western Cape. ABET certificate preferred; hands-on general work and ability to operate basic tools are required.

The role involves lawn care, pruning, fertilizing, cleaning facilities, loading/unloading, and assisting with water systems maintenance.

Qualifications

• ABET certificate preferred; higher qualifications an added advantage.
• Experience in manual work is advantageous.
• Basic knowledge of general work handling equipment and appliances.

Responsibilities

• Perform general assistant work.
• Loading and offloading furniture, equipment, and other goods to their relevant destinations.
• Cleaning government vehicles, machinery, and equipment.
• Cleaning the relevant workstations and ensuring working areas are clean.
• Cleaning lawns and pruning trees where necessary.
• Clean and maintain grounds, canals, office grounds etc.
• Repair tools and structures such as building, fences, around canals dam areas, office buildings and benches using hand and power tools.
• Mix spray or spread fertilizers using hand or atomic sprayers or spreaders.
• Provide proper upkeep of sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, planters, and other ground features.
• Maintain existing grounds / gardens by caring for sod, plants, and trees.
• Rake and mulch leaves irrigate plants and lawns.
• Sweep walkways, grounds, and clean buildings by sweeping and washing floors.
• Perform labouring duties to support maintenance, repair and construction of departmental infrastructure.
• Assisting with cleaning and repairing water supply systems like canals, drains, dams, and pipelines as well as repairs to department buildings.
• The incumbent must be willing to work away from home and will be required to perform duties at all schemes throughout the Western Cape.
