Placements24 is seeking a Civil Engineer for a trusted urban development consultancy in Benoni, Gauteng. The role focuses on planning, design and delivery of sustainable urban infrastructure, including roads, stormwater, and public spaces, in collaboration with urban planners, architects and authorities.

The successful candidate will hold a Civil Engineering degree, 5+ years of relevant experience, and ideally Pr Eng or candidate status with ECSA; proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D and SWMM is

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited institution.
• Pr Eng registration or candidate status with ECSA preferred.
• Minimum 5 years of civil engineering experience in urban development or municipal projects.
• Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD, Civil 3D) and hydraulic modeling SWMM.
• Solid understanding of South African municipal engineering standards.

Responsibilities

• Design civil infrastructure for urban development projects (roads, intersections, parking, walkways).
• Develop stormwater management designs (culverts, channels, ponds).
• Prepare detailed drawings, calculations, and specifications using CAD tools.
• Conduct feasibility and impact assessments; liaise with authorities for approvals.
• Collaborate with urban planners, landscape architects, and environmental scientists.
• Assist in tender documentation and construction phase support.
• Ensure compliance with bylaws, standards, and sustainable design practices.

About the Role

Our client, a prominent urban development consultancy, is looking for a dedicated Civil Engineer to join their team in Benoni, Gauteng. This role is central to the planning, design, and implementation of sustainable urban infrastructure projects, including roads, stormwater management, and public spaces. You will work closely with urban planners, architects, and local authorities to shape the future development of communities within Gauteng. Key Responsibilities

• Undertake the design of civil infrastructure for urban development projects, including road networks, intersections, parking areas, and pedestrian walkways.
• Develop designs for stormwater management systems, including culverts, channels, and detention/retention ponds.
• Prepare detailed engineering drawings, calculations, and specifications using relevant software.
• Conduct site assessments, feasibility studies, and impact assessments for proposed developments.
• Liaise with municipal authorities, utility providers, and other stakeholders to obtain necessary approvals and facilitate project progress.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including urban planners, landscape architects, and environmental scientists.
• Assist in the preparation of tender documents and provide support during the construction phase.
• Ensure designs comply with local bylaws, national standards, and best practices in sustainable urban development.
• Monitor construction activities to ensure adherence to design specifications and quality standards.
• Contribute to the development of master plans and integrated development frameworks.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited institution.
• Registration as a Professional Engineer (Pr Eng) or Candidate Engineer (Pr Eng) with ECSA is preferred.
• A minimum of 5 years of experience in civil engineering, with a focus on urban development, land development, or municipal infrastructure projects.
• Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D) and hydraulic modeling software (e.g., SWMM).
• Solid understanding of South African municipal engineering standards and planning regulations.
• Experience in designing roads, earthworks, and stormwater systems.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
• Ability to manage project tasks and meet deadlines.
• Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to sites within Benoni, Gauteng, and surrounding areas.
