About the Role

Our client, a significant entity in the mining sector , is seeking a highly competent Chief Surveyor to lead their surveying operations in Mahikeng, North West . This role is critical for ensuring accurate spatial data management, mine modeling, and regulatory compliance. You will be responsible for establishing and maintaining survey control networks, undertaking detailed topographic and volume surveys, and providing essential spatial data to mine planning, engineering, and operations teams. The Chief Surveyor will manage a team of survey technicians, implement best practices in surveying technology, and ensure the integrity and accuracy of all survey-related activities. This is a hands-on role requiring strong technical skills and leadership capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage all aspects of mine surveying, including surface and underground operations.
• Establish and maintain primary and secondary survey control networks.
• Conduct topographic surveys, boundary surveys, and volumetric calculations.
• Ensure accurate positioning of mine workings, infrastructure, and boreholes.
• Produce and maintain up-to-date mine plans and digital terrain models.
• Operate and maintain advanced surveying equipment (e.g., Total Stations, GPS/GNSS, Laser Scanners).
• Manage and mentor the survey team, including training and performance reviews.
• Ensure compliance with surveying standards, legislation, and company policies.
• Liaise with external surveyors and regulatory bodies as required.
• Integrate survey data with mine planning and geological software.

Requirements

• National Diploma or Degree in Surveying or Geomatics.
• Professional registration with the South African Geomatics Council (SAGC) as a Professional Land Surveyor or a qualified candidate for professional registration.
• Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in mine surveying, with proven leadership experience.
• Proficiency with surveying software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D, GIS) and mine modeling packages.
• Extensive experience with various surveying instruments and data processing techniques.
• Strong understanding of mining methods and their impact on surveying requirements.
• Excellent attention to detail, analytical skills, and problem-solving abilities.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
