Job summary

Placements24 seeks a Chief Geologist to lead resource estimation and modelling from its Mahikeng base. You will guide a geological team, manage data quality, and ensure reports meet international standards while supporting mine planning and investment decisions.

You will drive advanced modelling, oversee cross-disciplinary collaboration, and mentor geologists, balancing strategic oversight with hands-on leadership in a hybrid environment.

Qualifications

• Master's degree or PhD in Geology or Economic Geology with a strong research background.
• Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in resource geology focused on estimation and modelling.
• Experience writing technical reports to JORC, NI 43-101 or equivalent standards.

Responsibilities

• Lead and deliver resource estimation and geological modelling for multiple projects.
• Oversee QA/QC of geological data and ensure robust data management.
• Create and validate 3D geological models incorporating structural and lithological data.
• Perform resource estimations using geostatistical methods compliant with reporting codes.
• Classify resources/reserves by geological confidence and economic viability.
• Prepare high-quality geological and resource reports for internal and regulatory use.
• Collaborate with mine planning, engineering, and metallurgical teams.
• Mentor junior geologists and advance modelling capabilities.
• Stay current with modelling software and geostatistical techniques.
