Job summary

Eskom Holdings SOC Ltd in Gauteng seeks an experienced Senior Transformer Engineer to lead transformer design, testing, and lifecycle strategies within the Transformer and Switchgear Services – Engineering department. The role requires extensive API, design software proficiency, and a strong leadership approach to guide engineers and ensure ISO/OHS standards compliance.

The position offers permanent employment in the engineering domain with market-related remuneration.

Qualifications

Transformer design and specifications aligned with standards.
Installation and commissioning reporting and readiness checks.
Maintenance plans incl. preventive and predictive maintenance.
Condition monitoring and oil analysis (DGA).
Root-cause analysis and corrective actions for faults.
Performance optimization and load balancing strategies.
Adherence to safety standards and risk assessments.
Project management incl. timelines, budgets, procurement.
Provide technical guidance and mentoring to engineers.
Asset lifecycle plans for transformer refurbishment or upgrades.

Responsibilities

Design and specify transformer components and ratings.

Key Responsibilities

Transformer design and specification approved technical designs, ratings, insulation levels, and compliance with standards.
Installation and commissioning report verified setup, testing results, and readiness for operation.
Maintenance plans and schedule preventive and predictive maintenance programs to ensure reliability and longevity.
Condition monitoring reports oil analysis (DGA), thermal performance, load analysis, and health assessments.
Fault analysis and root cause reports investigations of failures, with corrective and preventive actions.
Performance optimization recommendations efficiency improvements, load balancing, and loss reduction strategies.
Safety and compliance documentation adherence to electrical safety standards, risk assessments, and audit reports.
Project management deliverables timelines, budgets, procurement specifications, and contractor oversight for transformer projects.

Plus ECSA Professional Registration
Master’s Degree count for 2 years’ experience
Doctorate Degree count for 3 years’ experience

Experience

15 years Post Graduate Engineering experience that includes 12 years’ experience specifically in the engineering aspects related to the Transformers
Experience must include Mentoring of Trainee Engineer or Design Engineer
Advanced Computer Skills including MS Word, MS Excel, MS Power point, MS projects, CAD and FEA software (SolidWorks, Nastran, Patran, Marc or similar)
Experience of Quality Management Systems and relevant ISO Standards
Experience of the OHSA, Construction Regulations and Environmental Regulations
