Job summary

Pick n Pay in Randburg is hiring a Checkout Assistant to deliver friendly, efficient service at the till. You'll scan merchandise, handle payments, and maintain an orderly checkout area, ensuring a positive shopping experience aligned with company standards.

You should have Grade 12, good numeracy and communication, basic computer skills, and a willingness to work shifts including weekends and holidays. Prior cashier experience is a plus.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 (Matric) is a minimum requirement.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Basic numeracy and literacy skills.
• Basic computer skills and the ability to learn POS systems.
• Good customer service and problem-solving abilities.
• Honesty, integrity, and attention to detail.
• Ability to work under pressure in a busy retail environment.
• Willingness to work shifts, weekends, public holidays, and overtime when required.
• Ability to stand for extended periods.
• Previous retail or cashier experience is advantageous but not required.

Responsibilities

• Welcome customers in a friendly and professional manner.
• Assist customers with checkout-related queries.
• Process purchases promptly while maintaining a positive customer experience.
• Handle customer complaints politely and refer complex matters to the supervisor.
• Thank customers for shopping at Pick n Pay.
• Scan merchandise accurately and ensure correct prices are charged.
• Process cash, card, voucher, and other payments.
• Issue receipts and complete transactions correctly.
• Follow procedures for refunds, exchanges, voids, and price adjustments.
• Balance till and report discrepancies per policy.
• Maintain a clean, tidy, and organized checkout area.
• Follow health and safety requirements and store policies.
• Work collaboratively with team and management.
