Placements24 is seeking an Information Security Engineer for a hybrid role in Cape Town, Western Cape. You will design, implement, and maintain security solutions to protect financial data and infrastructure.

A hands-on engineering mindset is essential, with expertise in network security, system hardening, and incident response. You will collaborate with IT operations and development teams, stay ahead of threats, and help build resilient security architectures within a leading financial services

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• 3-5 years of information security engineering or similar technical security experience.
• Hands-on experience with network security devices (Cisco ASA, Palo Alto).
• Proficiency in scripting for automation (Python, PowerShell, Bash).
• Experience with SIEM platforms (Splunk, QRadar) and monitoring tools.
• Understanding of cloud security (AWS, Azure) and container security.
• Knowledge of incident response methodologies and digital forensics.
• Familiarity with NIST CSF and ISO 27001.

Responsibilities

• Design, deploy, and manage security infrastructure (firewalls, VPNs, IDS/IPS, SIEM).
• Develop and automate security processes and tools for efficiency.
• Assess security of new applications and systems with recommendations.
• Investigate incidents, perform root cause analysis, and implement fixes.
• Collaborate with IT operations and development to embed security best practices.
• Maintain documentation of security systems, policies, and procedures.
• Participate in security awareness training and promote best practices.
• Manage patching and vulnerability remediation across systems.
• Conduct regular security audits and regulatory compliance checks.
