Job summary

Marvel Placement Consultant in North West SA seeks a skilled Instrumentation Technician for underground mining environments. You will maintain process instrumentation, diagnose PLC/SCADA systems, calibrate equipment, and support project work to improve reliability.

Applicants should have Grade 12, N4 or equivalent, a Trade Test, and 5+ years in C&I within mining. ECSA registration is advantageous; MHSA safety compliance is essential. This role is on-site and hands-on.

Qualifications

• Formal education and trade qualifications in electrical/instrumentation disciplines.
• Experience with process instrumentation and control systems in an industrial setting.
• Underground mining exposure and MHSA/safety awareness are preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform maintenance, installation and repairs on process instrumentation and control systems.
• Fault-find and diagnose PLC, SCADA and related equipment.
• Calibrate, test and commission instrumentation equipment.
• Maintain underground process systems including pumps, conveyors and ventilation.
• Support engineering changes and equipment improvements.
• Assist with planning and execution of engineering projects.
• Maintain maintenance records and reports; ensure reliability.

Job description

Minimum Requirements

• Grade 12 / Matric
• N4 Certificate or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation or Control Systems
• Trade Test in Instrumentation, Electrical or a related field
• Minimum 5 years' hands-on C&I experience within a mining or heavy industrial environment
• Proven underground mining experience essential
• Strong practical experience with process-related instrumentation, PLCs, SCADA systems and industrial process control
• Experience in maintenance, fault-finding, calibration, repairs and commissioning
• Ability to read and interpret electrical and instrumentation drawings
• Knowledge of project management principles
• Experience implementing engineering changes and commissioning equipment
• Knowledge of MHSA, SHEQ and mining safety requirements
• Computer literate
• Medically fit to work underground
• ECSA registration as a Technician or Technologist would be advantageous

Key Responsibilities

• Perform maintenance, installation and repairs on process-related instrumentation and control systems
• Conduct fault-finding and diagnostics on PLC, SCADA and related control equipment
• Calibrate, test and commission instrumentation and control equipment
• Maintain and troubleshoot underground process-related systems, including pumps, conveyors, ventilation and monitoring systems
• Implement engineering changes and assist with equipment modifications and improvements
• Assist with the planning and execution of engineering and improvement projects
• Apply project management principles when assisting with engineering projects
• Complete preventative and planned maintenance activities
• Assist with shutdowns, breakdowns and improvement projects
• Interpret technical drawings, specifications and instrumentation documentation
• Maintain accurate maintenance records and reports
• Ensure maximum equipment reliability and availability
• Ensure compliance with safety standards, procedures and applicable mining regulations
• Liaise with engineering and production teams to minimise downtime and improve equipment reliability
