Qualifications

• Grade 12 / Matric required.

Responsibilities

• Source suppliers, obtain quotations, compare pricing and place purchase orders.
• Expedite outstanding orders by actively following up with suppliers.

Job description

Our client is seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Buyer – Local & Import to join their team. The successful candidate will be responsible for purchasing, supplier coordination and import administration, with a strong emphasis on expediting orders and ensuring the on-time delivery of materials and components to meet production requirements.

This role requires someone who is persistent, organised and able to build strong supplier relationships while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Source suppliers, obtain quotations, compare pricing and place purchase orders.
• Expedite outstanding orders by actively following up with suppliers to ensure materials and components are delivered on time.
• Monitor delivery schedules, identify potential delays and take proactive steps to prevent disruptions to production.
• Liaise with suppliers regarding late deliveries, short deliveries, returns and price discrepancies.
• Build and maintain strong supplier relationships to improve delivery performance and service levels.
• Coordinate the delivery of materials and bought-out components in line with production and kitting schedules.
• Arrange and track incoming import shipments and liaise with shipping agents regarding required documentation and shipment updates.
• Assist with purchasing administration, including order processing, issuing planned work, printing and batching drawings.
• Maintain accurate purchasing records and ensure adherence to company procedures.
• Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in purchasing and delivery processes.

Requirements

• Grade 12 / Matric.
• Technical buying or procurement experience, preferably within a manufacturing or engineering environment.
• Demonstrable experience in order expediting, supplier follow-ups and delivery schedule management .
• Experience coordinating local and international suppliers and import shipments will be advantageous.
• Strong numerical and analytical skills.
• Advanced MS Excel proficiency, with good working knowledge of MS Word, email and internet applications.
• Syspro experience will be advantageous.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
• Ability to multitask, work under pressure and follow through on outstanding orders.
