Job summary

Staff Focus in South Africa is seeking an experienced Buyer to manage day-to-day procurement, ensure the right product range and stock levels to meet customer demand, and support store performance.

You will monitor sales, margins and stock reports, negotiate with suppliers, coordinate promotions and merchandising, and work closely with management to drive growth and profitability. 3+ years in retail/wholesale buying is required, with ERP and MS Office proficiency.

Qualifications

• 3+ years' experience as Buyer or Senior Buyer in retail or wholesale.
• Strong knowledge of FMCG buying, stock management, margins and supplier negotiations.
• Commercially minded with a strong understanding of sales and customer demand.
• Strong analytical, organisational and negotiation skills.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, high volume retail environment.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience with retail buying/ERP systems will be advantageous.

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor competitor pricing and market trends and identify opportunities for growth.
• Coordinate promotional activities and ensure effective merchandising and execution on the sales floor.
• Analyse sales and stock reports and take corrective action where required.
• Assist with achieving sales, gross profit, stockholding and shrinkage targets.
• Work closely with management and operational teams to improve store performance.
• Maintain a strong understanding of customer needs and local market trends.
• Assist with stock takes, loss control and general store operations when required.

Minimum Requirements

• 3+ years' experience in a Buyer or Senior Buyer role within retail or wholesale industry.
