Branch Manager – Steel & Industrial Distribution
Our client is looking for an experienced and driven Branch Manager to take full responsibility for the successful operation and growth of a large branch in the Western Cape.
This is a hands-on leadership role with full P&L accountability, responsibility for sales and margins, stock management, operations, customer relationships and a team of approximately 58 employees.
Key Responsibilities
- Take full responsibility for the day-to-day management and performance of the branch
- Manage sales, gross margins, OPEX and overall P&L performance
- Lead and manage a large team across sales, warehousing, distribution, transport, administration and customer service
- Develop and maintain key customer relationships, including contractors, engineering firms, mines and resellers
- Identify new markets, products and business opportunities
- Manage branch debtors and ensure effective credit controlMaintain strong stock integrity, including stock levels, ageing, shrinkage, cutting waste and working capital
- Plan, execute and manage stocktakes, cycle counts and reconciliations
- Monitor market trends and competitor activity
- Ensure compliance with OHS requirements and internal policies and procedures
- Drive productivity, service delivery and achievement of sales targets
- Read, understand and report on management and financial reports
- Build, motivate and develop a high-performing team while maintaining discipline and accountability
- Minimum 5 years' management experience
- Minimum 3 years' retail and floor sales experience
- Proven experience managing a branch, depot or trade counter
- Demonstrable P&L ownership, not only turnover responsibility
- Experience within steel, pipes and fittings, hardware, building materials or industrial distribution
- Strong product knowledge across steel sections, tube, pipes, fittings, valves and related products
- Strong understanding of sales, procurement, inventory, warehousing, fleet and financial management
- Strong managerial and leadership skills
- Strategic thinking and planning ability
- Strong numerical and computer skills
- Ability to work effectively under pressure
- Strong personality with the ability to lead, manage and hold a large team accountable
Advantageous
- Service centre experience, including profiling, cutting and bending
- Experience working with contractors, engineering companies, mines or resellers
- ERP experience
Working Hours
Monday – Friday: 07:30 – 17:00
Saturdays & Public Holidays: 08:00 – 13:00, according to a roster system.
