We are looking for a highly experienced and detail-oriented Bookkeeper with strong bookkeeping and payroll experience. The successful candidate will be responsible for a broad range of financial, payroll, statutory and administrative functions, reporting directly to the Financial Manager.
Financial & Accounting
Process cashbooks, petty cash and journals
Process cash and electronic payments
Reconcile bank accounts, petty cash and credit/debit card transactions
Perform monthly and year-end accounting procedures
Prepare trial balances, income statements and balance sheets
Prepare reporting packs
Prepare and submit VAT returns and reconcile to the general ledger
Assist with audits and resolve audit queries
Maintain the fixed asset register and process depreciation
Perform inventory period-end procedures and reconciliations
Payroll & HR Administration
Process weekly wages and monthly salaries
Process payroll deductions and electronic payments
Administer employee benefits, including provident fund, medical aid, bonuses and funeral policies
Prepare and distribute payslips
Manage leave administration and personnel files
Process and reconcile bonus and leave pay provisions
Prepare PAYE, UIF and SDL returns
Prepare IRP5s and Workmen’s Compensation returns
Assist with Department of Labour queries and audits
Administer staff loans and payroll deductions
Attend to payroll-related queries
Additional Responsibilities
Provide accounting and HR support to the Financial Manager
Provide financial information to other departments as required
Assist with fixed assets, inventory and general finance administration
Perform other reasonable duties as required
Bookkeeping qualification
Minimum 10 years’ experience in a bookkeeping and payroll role
Proficiency in accounting systems
Proficiency in Pastel Asset Register
Proficiency in AccSys Payroll
Experience preparing statutory returns
Strong Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook skills
Proficiency in SARS e-Filing
Excellent English communication skills
Experience using AccountMate
Experience migrating from one accounting system to another
Proficiency in isiXhosa
