Job summary

Implats is seeking a qualified Boilermaker to safely develop, cut, fabricate/assemble, weld, and maintain metal components within a mining environment.

The role requires welding in MIG, TIG, oxy-acetylene, and MMA processes, plus ability to read simple drawings and follow safety standards. A Grade 12 with Maths/Physics or NQF4 and a recognised trade qualification or NTC2 are required, along with 3 years of mining Boilermaker experience.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 with Mathematics and Physical Science or NQF Level 4.
• Recognised trade qualification or NTC 2 course.
• At least 3 years' Boilermaker experience in a mining environment.

Responsibilities

• Weld carbon steel workpieces with MIG in all positions.
• Weld carbon steel workpieces with TIG in all positions.
• Weld carbon steel workpieces with oxy-acetylene gas welding in all positions.
• Weld carbon steel workpieces with GMAW in all positions.
• Interpret simple engineering drawings.
• Adhere to safety regulations and mine standards.

Job description

To safely develop, cut, fabricate/assemble, weld, and maintain metal components.

COMPETENCIES:

• Adheres to safety regulations and mine standards, procedures and practices and reports non-compliance.
• Participates in regular safety meetings and makes recommendations to ensure overall safety.
• Performs regular inspections in area of work and report hazards to ensure environment is safety and hazard free and recommends remedial action where necessary.
• Builds, supports and maintains healthy diverse internal and external relations and implement remedial actions where required.
• Provides relevant support to stakeholders to ensure team objectives are achieved.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:

• Demonstrate knowledge pertaining to basic health and safety principles in the workplace.

• Weld carbon steel workpieces, using gas metal arc welding process in all positions.
• Grade 12 (with Mathematics and Physical Science) or NQF Level 4.
• Recognised relevant Trade Qualification or NTC 2 specialised course.
• 3 Years of Boilermaker experience in a mining environment.
